Dear Visitor,
On behalf of me, myself and all the staff of our Department, I would like to welcome you to the website of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Debrecen.
The aim and task of the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Debrecen is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in civil engineering at a competitive level both at home and abroad to all students studying at bachelor and master's degree programmes in civil engineering, architecture, environmental engineering, technical management, who take the courses offered by the Department of Civil Engineering as optional subjects according to their curriculum or beyond it. (Curricula, Bulletin)
The Department of Civil Engineering, University of Debrecen is responsible for the Bachelor of Civil Engineering (BSc), Bachelor of Civil Engineering in English (Civil Engineering BSc), and the Master of Structural Engineering (MSc), MSc in Civil Engineering and MSc in Urban System Engineering in English, as well as the maintenance of various post-graduate courses related to civil engineering, commonly known as specialised engineering courses. (Bachelor’s Programme, Master Programme)
In addition to the education, research, curriculum development, laboratory development and publication activities related to the degree programmes and the specialisations within each degree programme, we place great emphasis on supporting the professional and academic activities of our students and on nurturing the talents of young people with outstanding abilities.
The knowledge needed to practise the highly diverse profession of civil engineering is provided by specialised groups within the Department of Civil Engineering. The members of the Structural Engineering Section provide the statics, materials and structural engineering knowledge required for the design and construction of load-bearing structures. The knowledge of Geotechnics Section, the soil mechanics and foundation required for the construction of buildings and structures. The High-Rise Construction Section mainly provides building structural engineering and design knowledge. The Transport Construction Section educates students road construction, road design, railway construction and railway design. The Hydraulic Engineering Group provides students with knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, utility engineering and environmental protection related to civil engineering activities. The Urban Engineering Group provides students with knowledge of planning, operation, maintenance and development of settlements, and the Geotechnical Group provides students with geoinformatics knowledge required for the installation of all civil engineering facilities. Professional Group)
In order to ensure the professional development of students, the Department of Civil Engineering has organised different student groups, where students with different interests can gain further professional, scientific knowledge and practical experience in different areas of civil engineering. The Cultural Engineering Workshop has a community-organising character, the Pasta Bridge Building Workshop, the Concrete Canoe Building Workshop and the MAPS Workshop are internationally recognised groups based on principles and rules established by students, the Future Building Workshop and Workshop promotes the civil engineering profession among future engineers in public education, the SSA Workshop is aimed at students interested in scientific work and the SSA Workshop is aimed at students interested in the field of civil engineering. The SSA Workshop provides a framework and support for students interested in learning and participating in various talent development programmes.
As a traditionally practice-oriented engineering training workshop, the department is continuously present in national and international professional and scientific research programmes, tenders, professional and scientific organisations in the field of civil engineering. All our engineer colleagues are practising engineers, members of the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers and/or the Hungarian Chamber of Architects, and have a number of design, expert and construction-related qualifications. The scientific work of the lecturers and students is supported by the Material and Structure Testing Laboratory, the Geotechnics Laboratory, the Public Works Laboratory and the Geoinformatics Laboratory, all of which are under the care of the Department of Civil Engineering. Laboratories)
The Department of Civil Engineering of University of Debrecen is the only base for civil engineering education in Eastern Hungary. Due to this special situation, our regional role is of crucial importance in our everyday life. The vast majority of our students from the settlements of the Northern Hungary Region, the Northern Great Plain Region, the Southern Great Plain Region and the Central Hungary Region choose the University of Debrecen as their place of study, and in view of the beauty and versatility of the profession, and a particular way of life, the various bachelor's, master's and specialist engineering courses within the field of civil engineering.
I hope that by visiting our website you will find a training centre, a professional and scientific workshop with which you can cooperate in the future to carry out successful studies, professional and scientific work.
Best regards,
Dr. Imre KOVACS
head of Department
